In the summer of 2010, with the purchase of a ticket to the latest Pokémon movie Ruler of Illusion: Zoroark, you got a shiny version of either Raikou, Entei, or Suicune for your game. These special shiny beasts will unlock an event to catch a Zoroark in the newest upcoming Pokémon games, Pokémon Black and White. The shiny beasts even appear in this movie.
This unleashed an unprecedented promotion in the Pokémon Center, including the first-ever shiny Pokédolls, and a flood of non-promotional shiny beast merchandise as well. To date this has been the largest merchandise release of shiny Pokémon, beating out the shiny Magikarp and Gyarados promotion that accompanied Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Shown below are my event shiny (known as "Crown" for the city featured in the movie, Crown City) beasts, in my HeartGold game.

The top two prizes of the Garapon-Kuji lottery commemorating the shiny beast trio; A prize was a set of all three, and B prize was a choice of one doll. These are the very first shiny Pokédolls ever made, unprecidented in that and their rarity. While an official number was never released, it is estimated that each Pokémon Center in Japan got around 250 of each doll, which would total 1,250 of each doll made. (There has been a claim of 250 of each doll total, but far too many have shown up for auction in my experience for that to be correct.) These dolls are breathtakingly beautiful, right down to the unique tag art, and feature slightly tweaked and improved patterns over their normal counterparts.

Absolutely gorgeous metal charms of the shiny beasts. I even love the backing the charms come on; muted, but just beautiful. These charms were the C prize of the shiny beast Garapon-Kuji lottery.

Takara Tomy 2010
From August to September of 2010, Takara Tomy held a mail-in campaign for special, limited shiny versions of the Raikou, Entei, and Suicune MonColle Plus. These gorgeous figures, although not the first of their kind (Takara Tomy held a similar campaign for a shiny Lucario MonColle Plus earlier in 2010), were the last limited release of shiny beast trio merchandise. These figures were limited to 1,000 of each beast, 3,000 rewarded in all.
