Why Collect These Pokémon?
To this day I have such fond memories of Pokémon Gold and Crystal. Just thinking about them bring about such incredible nostalgia, and longing for my favorite region, Johto. Most of all, I miss the chase of the Legendary Beast Trio, the reason I fell in love with them, and their compelling mythology. The legend of the Beast Trio and Ho-oh is by-far my favorite legend in the Pokémon game series, so much so I wished a whole movie was made of it. Crystal only made my love grow further, with its focus on Suicune and more in-depth look into the legend. And with the release of the Gold remake HeartGold, I've been able to relive these fond memories and remember exactly why I fell in love in the first place.
Meanwhile, a couple years later, I was shown a picture of a beautiful quadruped Pokémon from the then-upcoming Ruby and Sapphire games. As I put it, Absol I considered to be an "honorary member" of the Beast Trio, not only because of appearance, but because of its own compelling story. A Pokémon misunderstood by humans as a bringer of disasters and bad luck, when in reality it foresees these disasters and ventures down to warn them. (I'm actually surprised this Pokémon isn't part-Psychic.)
Funnily enough, I can also see parallels between it and Sailor Saturn (my all-time favorite anime/manga character) in that sense of being misunderstood as harbingers of disaster, and for both using scythes in battle.
History of Sacred Field
Sacred Field, named for the Friend Area of Raikou, Entei, and Suicune in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team, was created on August 8 2008. (I can't remember when I actually uploaded the site, but the layout was created that day.) It was created both to showcase my collection and every item in it, and hopefully provide a helpful resource to other collectors of the Beast Trio and Absol.
However, it wasn't my first site dedicated to them. From as far back as I began collecting Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, I had a site that was also a general information and image gallery, known as Silent Aurora. For a time it was even hosted at this same URL (minus the /sacred extension), until I finally lost interest when I lost access to this host. Sacred Field is in a way that site's rebirth, though a lot more organized and focused on merchandise. (And hopefully better designed.)
